Maison & Objet urges you make your interior glitter thanks to the “Celebration” trend

Maison & Objet is the leading furniture and design fair in Paris. This year the mega-trend theme is CELEBRATION. The home celebrates new forms of conviviality and the desire to come together. To help us forget that everyday life isn’t always a party, our interiors take on different disguises depending on our moods - and this works wonderfully when done with crystal.

The meeting between the clearness of design and the brilliance of crystal inaugurates a whole new chapter in contemporary aesthetics. An example for this mega-trend is the trend forum Funk Shui of the Nelly Rodi style agency with the sofas and armchairs by the Italian design company Edra, overlaid with crystals. Exactly like the crystal lighting of Laurent Valentin Abascal. These products impart a festive aura to everyday life. FUNK SHUI WITH CRYSTAL TREND

In the trend forum called Funk Shui imagined by the trend agency Nelly Rodi, crystal and the designs of EDRA have a special place. A festive cocktail party, somewhere between disco revival and neo-cabaret. New waves are electrifying the need for new outlets. From the table to the bed, Nelly Rodi is dressing the house up in Swarovski crystals and sequins. The home interior is thus morphed into an entertainment centre - ignoring the borders between private and public spaces. EDRA the trendsetter

This new trend once again, proves that the Italian family company Edra is still at the top of trend designers’ inspiration boards for the year 2007. We already know the Edra Diamond sofa studded with more than 750,000 Swarovski crystals. This gorgeous sofa has soon been joined by more crystallized items. A special Diamond collection is born: Damier, Getsuen, Tatlin, Sushi and On The Rocks shimmer with thousands of crystals. However, achieving this magic requires the use of a highly resistant fabric containing Kevlar. It is cut and then covered with small Hot Fix crystals. Once laden with crystals, the fabric is sewed onto the products by the skilful hands of The Edra Couture Dept.

Also in this festive mood, the French designer Laurent Valentin Abascal created a breathtaking metal lamp “Night Light” embellished entirely with crystals. He uses the crystals' innate thirst for light, which is then reverberated into thousands of glints - while conferring exceptional fluidity to shapes. Their magic and power of transfiguration is hidden in the multiple reflections.

Laurent Valentin Abascal created his design label in 2004 and is greatly inspired and influenced by his fashion background: “The use of crystal is very in vogue at the big Haute Couture houses, so why not transfer this trend into design and especially light?” says Mr. Valentin when asked about his crystal passion. For 2007 we can expect a version of his lamp in the new colour champagne – CHEERS and CELEBRATE!
